Hitachi Unveils Biometric Drink Machine
Uses finger vein authentication technology
The biometric authentication technology from Hitachi is integrated with the company's new drinks vending machine to offer enhanced service, the company said.
The new device is due to be tested in Hitachi offices later this year. The machine uses finger vein authentication to match customers with their pre-registered credit cards. Then the card is charged by the system for respective items taken from it.
The vending machine features a LCD display for displaying advertisements or company information.
Biometric technology links personal characteristics to a database of settlement sources. This new form of facility is becoming common in vending machine technology. Customers do not have to carry cash or card to use these machines and that reportedly increases the security of the transactions.
